We couldn't be more excited to announce the birth of our baby girl. Stella Grace Hinman was in a big hurry to get here and she wouldn't be our daughter without a touch of drama. Stella was born on my birthday, January 6, at 6:44 am. She weighed 5 pounds, 14 oz and was 19 inches long.
I went in on January 5th for a check-up ultrasound and follow-up for my placental abruption/ high blood pressure. I blew a huge number when my BP was checked. The ultrasound was good and baby looked great. However, the doctor was very concerned that my condition was not improving and she readmitted me to the hospital, right from the doctors office! She and my OB spoke and it was decided that it would be in the best interest of the baby and me if they induced...which meant, we would be having a baby the next day!! Needless to say, Steve was shocked when I called and told him to meet me at the hospital!
The plan was to induce the next morning at 7am. I was given some medication to soften my cervix overnight. Well, even the best laid plans have other ideas. My water broke around 3am and I had the epidural soon after. I woke up around 6am and felt lots of pressure. The nurse checked to see how things were going and replied, "Close your legs! I need to get the doctor, it's time and I can see her head!!". Things moved very quickly after that. Only about 20-30 minutes of pushing and Stella was here!
Stella was born at 34 weeks, 6 days which earned her a direct trip to the NICU. Luckily, our girl is a fighter and was off oxygen in less than an hour. By the next day, the feeding tube was out and she was eating from a bottle! Stella spent 5 days in the NICU, mostly due to jaundice and spent Saturday tanning in the NICU. We brought her home on Sunday, January 10th.
